Blind Beggars No More

In one of today’s devotional readings, I was struck by a spiritual truth about blindness. In reality, we are all blind beggars until we truly see and encounter Jesus.
In the gospel passage in Mark chapter 10, Jesus is ministering in the city of Jericho. Scripture says that Bartimaeus, son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Jesus does not ignore his cries. He does not just walk by, but rather He calls to Bartimaeus. Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “My teacher, let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed Jesus on the way. And Jesus was no longer just teacher, but now He was Healer and Savior because Bartimaeus had truly encountered Christ.
We are all blind when our eyes are without spiritual sight. We are all blind when we live in darkness or bondage in any area of the mind or soul. And until we see Jesus and truly encounter Him, we go through life living as blind beggars. Sin holds us captive in the darkness of the soul or in literal bondage. We cannot find our way in life because we cannot see truth and light. And that truth and life is Jesus!

We don’t need to beg God to help us, to free us, or to bless us. When we encounter Him, we see all that God has provided and done for us. We are not beggars, but rather we are called children of God, sons and daughters of the Most High God, and heirs of the Promised One.
When we truly see and understand WHO He is and all He has done for us and longs to do in us and through us, we, like Bartimaeus, throw off that old cloak of bondage and sin, and we jump up to walk in new life and freedom! It is then that we eagerly follow Him because we have eyes to see His goodness and all the blessing and restoration He wants to give us.

We are blind beggars no more, but children of God, highly favored, highly blessed, and set free to follow Him in the light of day now.
If you’re begging God for anything, beg no more! Call on His Name; let Him heal you in any area you are still blind to His goodness and all He has for you. And then walk in the light of all He has done for you and wants to continue to do.
Blind beggars no more!
Beloved:
I did not come to just save you from sin, but I came to give you an abundant life. That begins with calling on Me, renewing your mind in My Word, and letting Me heal and set your heart free. Call on Me, and I will open your eyes, more and more, to the beautiful life I have planned for you. You are not a beggar; you are My favored child and heir.
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your Word.” (Ps. 119:18)
“Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints.” (Eph. 1:18)
“Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ...” (Romans 8:17)
