Mourning/Morning Dove

"Doves have a beautiful and mournful song..."

Mourning dove sings

Her mourning dove song

Mourning ‘til morning

She sings all night long.

She has pain in her heart

From the sorrow, neglect

She has hurt in her soul

Expectations unmet.

Looking for love

And soul’s satisfaction

Anything to dull pain

With life’s many distractions.

Tears veiled from all

Grief quavered at night

Her disappointment hidden

And barred from the light.

Broken bird flays

Dove cannot take flight

And sorrow is sung

In her heart’s mournful cry.

But soon the dawning

Of morning’s new day

Bursts light on her sorrow

Truth no longer kept bay.

Mourning dove coos

Her morning reframed tune,

Calling and pleading

Her heart to commune.

For Father is listening

To broken bird’s song

Creator is saying

To Me you belong.

And Master draws near

To dove’s melody

Bringing life and healing

And His remedy.

Carefully He tends

Each wound in her heart

Gently He heals

Granting dove a new start.

Until mourning dove knows

To Him she belongs

Safe in His love

She finds freedom’s new song.

Mourning dove’s aria

Yields to brightness of new day

As morning dove soars

In worship and praise.

"God wants to heal all sorrow until we can fly again..."

“Sorrow abides by night, but joy comes in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5)

“I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them and give them gladness for sorrow.” (Jeremiah 31:13)

(Inspired by the Lord on July 25, 2024 for my beloved friend Kathleen who is finding new morning as God heals her heart.)
