The Lights Of Christmas

I

l love the holidays and decorating for the Christmas season. Lights, in particular, add a special ambiance to the season. But lights sometimes are a lot of work. A lot!
Take my three-year-old, pre-lit, artificial Christmas tree in the family room. Last year, half the lights quit working. This year, we had to restring the whole tree. So much for the ease of working lights!
And in another instance, the pre-lit Christmas garland I was decorating in the formal dining room only lit up one solitary bulb! One! Frustrated, I stopped in the middle of decorating to go purchase more lights to string on the garland. Driving to and from the craft store, I vowed never to purchase “pre-lit” items ever again.
Wise to the light game, I tested all the lights before progressing any further in decorating our home. But even a faulty extension cord made the outdoor Christmas lights and decorating a challenge! Until I figured out the problem.
What was it with the lights this year, I wondered? Christmas lights are worth it because of what they represent…

Lights symbolize the birth of Christ. A huge star lit up the heavens, proclaiming His birth and lighting the way for the wisemen who traveled far to see the newborn King. And the heavenly light drew the shepherds to find and encounter Christ.
Christmas lights, to this day, symbolize Christ bringing His salvation. And lights represent how He shines and illuminates our lives and our way so that we no longer need to walk in darkness. He is the Light!
Once again, I’m enjoying seeing my own Christmas lights and the holiday lights in our neighborhood and throughout the city. And not just for their beauty, but because of what they represent: the Light of Christ. Jesus Christ humbled Himself as a babe to not only bring us salvation, but to bring light to any darkness in our lives and to bring hope and joy!
May you encounter the Savior anew and have fresh eyes to see the True Light as you view the Christmas lights this year.

Beloved:
I am indeed the very Light of life. May you be reminded of all I have done for you this holiday season. Let no darkness, no fear, no despair, or anything hold you captive. But come into My Light. And let the holiday lights remind you of Me.
“…and behold, the star which (the wisemen) had seen in the east went in front of them until it came and stood over where the young Child was.” (Matthew 2:9)
“I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in Me may not remain in darkness.” (John 12:46)
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.” (Isaiah 9:2)
